Athletic Bilbao Held by Sociedad While Levante Victorious over Cordoba

Athletic Bilbao played out a 1-1 draw at the San Mames in a controversial derby which saw a suspicious red card shown to Mikel Gonsalez.

With both teams stuck in mid table and both parties looking for a European berth they had to fight to the final whistle. While Athletic kept possession of the ball Sociedad looked to strike on the counter. Both parties failed to score in the first period and both the goals came in the second period.

The first goal came in the 52nd minute in controversial fashion when Mikel Gonslaes and Aritz Aduriz rose for a high ball in the penalty area and Gonsalez was given marching orders by the referee even though it did seem like a 50/50 chance. Aduriz converted the resulting penalty in style sending the goal keeper the wrong way. Both side looked to press well and even though Real Sociedad were a man down they looked to press and defend at the same time. Iraizoz was forced with a great save from a Xabi Prieto shot.

Ruben pardo played a brilliant ball towards De La Belle and he finished it off in some style. Both sides looked to press well but the encounted ended all square.

Levante cruised to a 1-0 win over relegation partners Cordoba on Tuesday after a convincing match up.

A good goal from David Barral was just enough to see a win for levanter at the ciutat de Valencia. The all vital goal came just before the half time break. David Barral was named MOTM after his good performance against the side. Barral collected a ball and spread I towards team mate Victor Casadesus and he immediately played the ball back towards Barral who finished it off in some style.
This victory would see them safe in the relegation area, eventhough they are under pressure from Deportivo la Coruna.
